ProfileI have always loved working with fabric. As a child I made clothes for my dolls, as a teenager, clothes for myself, and as a mother, clothes for my daughters and their dolls. Scraps of fabric were always kept for using one day. In 1991 I discovered traditional patchwork and quilting, but soon grew bored with the repetition. I started attending workshops that taught me I could break the “rules” of the traditional. I also started dyeing and painting my own fabrics. In September 2003, after winning first prize in the innovative wall quilt category at the biennial New Zealand quilters symposium and exhibition in Christchurch, I decided to retire from a 37 year career in nursing and pursue my passion full time. Since then I have had two combined exhibitions at the Left Bank Art Gallery with my husband Bob. I was invited to exhibit at Te Tuhi the Mark gallery in Manukau City during the 2005 Auckland Quilting Symposium. I have had work selected for various quilting exhibitions in New Zealand and had a piece travel to Birmingham, UK and Seattle USA, I was invited to submit two works for the Lay of the Land exhibition at the Left Bank Art Gallery, Greymouth, in 2005.
